Can you find the secret message in the map and figure out the password to a page of RJ’s diary?
Puzzle Solution: This puzzle is deceiving because both the maze and the letters through it are red herrings. The actual secret message is hidden in the pattern made by the small hedge icons that make up much of the maze walls. Besides the long continuous hedge pieces, there are only two repeating icons used for the walls – the round shrub and the shorter but longer hedge piece. For the secret message, these icons represent just what they resemble actually – the dots and dashes of a Morse code message.
The secret message (and therefore the password) is "friend of the forest" which in Morse code is:
..-. .-. .. . -. -.. / --- ..-. / - .... . / ..-. --- .-. . ... –
Puzzle Production: The puzzle can be made from the graphics in the design guide, using the shrub and small hedge images found there. The long continuous hedge pieces are made from the large Hedge images in the design guide, and should be made to look as if they are connected as one long hedge wherever used, so as not to confuse them with the Morse code icons.
The squares are used to show the path(s) through the maze but the actual letters
in them don’t matter, as they are just a distraction anyway. I used a
good mix of letters to make the diversion more confusing.
